Sound Masking

Does your business have “open office” space with either cubicles or desks? Have you ever been standing outside a closed door and you could still hear what is being said inside? Do you have offices where the discussions inside need to remain private? Is your office noisy and hard to carry on a phone conversation because the person at the desk next to you is talking?

If you answered YES to any of these questions, then you are the perfect candidate for sound masking.

Today’s modern office environments present numerous challenges in terms of privacy. Open floor plans, flimsy cubicle materials, and open door policies not only remove the element of privacy, but noise carries over cubicles and thru walls which makes communication a constant issue for employees.  Sound masking is a technology designed to specifically combat these issues.

How Does Sound Masking Work?

Similar to how perfume covers up an unpleasant smell, sound masking uses ambient, background noise to cover the sounds of your employee’s conversations or voices being heard outside a closed-door office or board room.

Your custom sound masking system will be tailored to your needs. The number of speakers and the level of background sounds will be custom tailored to the layout of your business as well as the needs of your business.  No two offices are the same and every sound masking system that we deploy is specifically designed for your exact needs and office layout.

Who Needs Sound Masking?

The primary users of sound masking are businesses with open floor plans including call centers, or customers for whom privacy of conversations behind closed doors is of the utmost importance. The following are a couple of different applications that Automated Environments has deployed sound masking systems:

  • LDS Church In Mesa, this project was similar in scope to the majority of projects

As you can imagine, every church building has offices in which meetings and interviews with patrons take place, often with personal issues being talked about.  The need for privacy and confidentiality is of the utmost importance and is why we install sound masking outside each office.  With a properly and professionally installed system, patrons can talk about their most sensitive private matters without worrying that someone outside the door is going to hear what is being said.

  • Wells Fargo Call Centers, multiple locations in the Phoenix Valley

Wells Fargo, thru their General Contractor, reached out to us to design and deploy a sound masking system in multiple call center locations for them.  We designed, proposed, and installed large sound masking systems for areas that have hundreds of cubicle spaces, offices and conference rooms.  Working closely with our manufacturing partner, we design a complete system including detailed drawings of speaker locations and equipment lists, specifications for speaker height and volume levels for optimum performance.

How Much Does A Sound Masking System Cost?

The price depends on the size and type of system you require.  We have designed and installed systems for as little as $1000 and as much as $80000. If you are thinking about a sound masking system for your business, please give us a call at 480-545-5050.
